それを営み　それを繋ぐ
今は昔　この記憶

植物を編み組みして作られる暮らしの道具、「籠」。
自然豊かな日本では、竹類、山葡萄、胡桃、板屋楓、
あけび蔓、葛藤等の材料に恵まれ、 地域や用途により
編み方が異なり、その種類も実に豊富である。

籠の発祥は、縄文時代にまで遡る。
現在の編み方の多くは、その頃より編まれていたことが、
発掘された数々の遺物より 確認されている。
籠は、太古より日本人の暮らしに欠かせない道具のひとつであった。

それに触れると、遠い記憶に触れる瞬間がある。

前田氏はこの上なく日本の籠を愛している。暮らしを編み続ける編手達を敬愛している。これは、日本の素晴らしき籠の名工たちと、籠探求の旅を続ける氏との、蜜月の物語だ。この、森の国日本に、未だこの様に美しい仕事をして下さる方々が、確かに居られる。どうか、わたし達の日々の暮らしに留まり、今と共にあって欲しいと心より願っている。

“Baskets”, our everyday tool, made by weaving plant materials. Japan is blessed with bountiful nature, and it provides various raw materials for basket making such as bamboos, wild grapes, walnut, painted maple, akebia and kudzu vines. They are used in different regions in Japan to produce baskets diverse in both weaving methods and their purposes.

The origin of basket making goes back to Jomon period. The excavated relics from that period show that the many of the methods of weaving were already in use back then. Baskets have been one of the essential tools in the everyday lives of the Japanese since the ancient times.

When we touch them, we feel the existence of some distant memories for a flashing moment.

Mr. Maeda treasures Japanese baskets. He respects and adores the weavers who create for everyday life. This is a story of the honeymoon between the brilliant master basket makers and Mr. Maeda who are on a continious journey of studying everything baskets. In this country of forest, Japan, there are still people who work with such beauty and excellence. I hope, from bottom of my heart, these precious works will be with us always in our lives.

We will be showing and selling baskets and sieves made by Japanese craftsmen from different regions. We are sincerely hoping to provide you with an opportunity to see their superb skills in which the present and the past cross paths.
